Understanding Packaging

Understanding Packaging

This booklet is based on independent research commissioned by INCPEN and carried out by the UK CEED (Centre for Economics and Environmental Development). It tested the theory that "It would defy economic logic for a company to pack a product purposely in excessive packaging" by examining all the factors which influence the choice of packaging for five very different products: Computer monitors; Laundry liquids; Chilled and frozen fish; Skin care products; Fragrances It also looks at some common public perceptions - Packaging is wasteful; We have too much packaging; All packaging should be recycled; Many goods are over-packaged - and explains the relevant findings of the UK CEED research. Trading Standards Officers use this booklet as an introduction to packaging in training sessions on the UK (Essential Requirements) Regulations .
